If you have some free hours, walk though old citta to Ponte Vecchio, cross Arno and turn left and up to the hills. Then walk around stone terraces, have in mind only - am I already lost or only began it? - and you will see the Rose Garden - beautifull place for dates and picniks. This views are already stunning, but you should go upper - and you will get all the Florence in regard.
The best solution is to get there before the dusk.
